United Kingdom 2018 2 GPB Armistice Centenary Cupronickel Coin in Folder (light wear)
Created to mark the centenary of Armistice, this £2 cupronickel coin features a truly unique design by textual artist Stephen Raw. Raw was inspired by the soldier-poet Wilfred Owen, who wrote deeply moving poetry about the horror and futility of war that starkly contrasted the popular image of war as a patriotic act of heroism. This unique reverse design was originally sculpted from clay taken from the very place where Owen was killed in action, just a week before Armistice in 1918. The quote is from his haunting and deeply complex poem, "Strange Meeting" -- "the truth untold, the pity of war."
This coin comes presented in a handsome and informative folder, in its original plastic packaging. Please note, some minor signs of wear and handling may be apparent.
