Cuba 1997 10 Pesos Guerrillero Heroico 30th Anniversary of the Death of Che Guevara .999 Silver (No Tax) issues
Born in 1928 in Rosario, Argentina, Ernesto "Che" Guevara de la Serna grew up appalled by the conditions of a Latin America crushed under the yolk of United States capitalist exploitation. In Mexico City in 1955, he met Raúl and Fidel Castro and joined their revolutionary movement to expel the US from Cuba, quickly becoming a pivotal figure in their guerrilla campaign to depose US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. They succeeded, and when the new government was sufficiently established, Guevara left Cuba to start further revolutions across South America and Africa. He believed that poor countries were kept that way by exploitative neocolonialism built on monopoly capitalism -- a truth that eventually saw him captured by CIA-assisted Bolivian forces and executed.
Depending on where you are and what you believe, Che Guevara is bound to be either revered or reviled. His 1960 portrait, titled Guerrillero Heroico ("The Heroic Guerrilla Fighter") is one of the most immediately recognizable countercultural symbols in Western culture and one of the most famous photographs in the world.
This one-ounce .999 fine silver coin honours the 30th anniversary of Che Guevara's death. The portrait on the reverse is based on "Che Ministro" by Alberto Gutierrez "Korda." The obverse shows the Cuban coat of arms the commemorated event to the right, translated "Republic of Cuba - 30th anniversary of the death in combat of Ernesto Guevara de la Serna and his companions." Coin comes in a case with Spanish-language COA.
Please note, this second-hand item exhibits some signs of wear and handling, including minor scratches on the capsule.
