Franz I (or Francis) was the last non-Habsburg to rule the Holy Roman Empire. He was, however, married to one; his second cousin, Maria Theresa, was the daughter of Emperor Charles VI, and it was she who made him her co-regent upon the death of Charles VII. The couple had no fewer than sixteen children, among them Marie Antoinette, last (pre-revolutionary) queen of France.
