2013 USA Edith & Woodrow Wilson First Spouse $1 Presidential Coin & Medal Set
Starting in 2005, the United States Mint honoured the First Spouses -- that is, the wife (or, theoretically, husband) of a sitting president -- with a series of half-ounce gold coins. These designs were also used to produce bronze medals, which were sold paired with their respective president's $1 coin. This set celebrates Edith Wilson, who married widower Woodrow Wilson in December of 1915. She is sometimes called America's first woman president because of the important role she played in the management of presidential affairs after her husband suffered a massive stroke in 1919. The reverse depicts Edith resting a warm and supportive hand on Woodrow Wilson's cane.
