In the early 1960s, planning for Canada's upcoming centennial celebrations inspired an idea: a national flag, something unique that celebrated a separate identity from the United Kingdom. Countless proposals were made, and months were spent reviewing. Eventually, the now-iconic flag was chosen: red and white, Canada's national colours, and featuring a central maple leaf, a Canadian symbol since the early days of the fur trade. The new flag was raised for the first time on February 15, 1965.
Celebrating 40 years since the introduction of the iconic maple leaf flag, this .9999 fine silver coin features a beautiful proof reverse image of the flag flying over parliament, with fireworks in the sky. This coin has been certified by ICCS and assigned a grade of MS67.
