1970 Canada 300th Anniversary of the Hudson's Bay Company Staff Gift Medallion (scuffs)
The Hudson's Bay Company was founded by royal charter in 1670, granting it sole trade and commerce rights over the territory of Rupert's Land in modern Canada. For centuries, HBC dominated the fur trade throughout British North America and acted as its de facto government until it relinquished control to Canada in 1869. Through the later part of the 19th century, HBC diversified into retail businesses. The namesake department stores it would later be known for launched in 1881, and it was also the parent company of Zellers, Home Outfitters, Fields, Morgan's, Simpsons, and Woodward's. In 1970, staff working at HBC received these commemorative medallions that celebrated the 300th anniversary of the company's founding charter, featuring a sailing ship on the reverse and the HBC coat of arms on the reverse.
Please note, this second-hand item exhibits some visible scratches and scuffs on the outer plastic.
